Photos of “Five Bells” family from the early 20th century

CLAYTON William and wife 1920s
William Clayton and his wife Mary, possibly around 1920. Note the dog… (photo courtesy Adrian & Di Govier)

I am indebted to Adrian and Di Govier for lending me a couple of photographs from behind the bar. I believe that the pictures show a licensee from the early 20th century, somewhere between 1910 and 1920, but I can’t be sure.

New sections added

UPDATE iconI am indebted to Parish Clerk Roger Hales who kindly lent me a raft of Village Archive material at the Pre-Christmas Coffee Morning last Saturday. I have now scanned all of the important photographs and have spread them across this website.

As the vast majority featured people I have added them into the ‘PEOPLE’ section, either “as is” or else in new sections created specifically to house them, viz:

I have copied verbatim the accompanying text so the narrative should prove interesting. A few other pictures are spread across the site in specific locations; I’ll let you discover them yourselves. 😉

One thing, though… Many of the photographs of individuals are undated and/or unnamed so if you can help to date or identify any of them please do get in touch.

A night at the “Five Bells”!

196061 FIVE BELLS 1I am again grateful to Tom Booker who has lent me a photograph taken in 1960/61 showing some carousing locals in the “Five Bells” at a time when he and his wife were running the place. But can you help identify the punters? Are they your family? or even YOU?!

Click the picture here to visit the page and enlarge the picture. If you know anybody, please let me know and I’ll add their names.

Paddy’s Jetty property identified

1969 Three cottage groupI am indebted to Rebecca Holland who has been in touch to tell me that one of the properties in this photograph is known to her. You can click the picture here to see the details.

I have several such photographs/postcards on this site where, despite my best efforts, I am unable to identify a particular building or view; should you be able to help in any way, please follow Rebecca’s example and get in touch with me. 😉
